A Philadelphia boxing gym at dawn, a hidden kingdom with millennia of tradition, a juke joint in the Mississippi Delta on a single night in 1932. Revealed by “Fruitvale Station”, the first film of his long-time creative partner Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan has established himself as the actor of discipline, duality and legacy: with him, every role asks what we inherit — and what we make of it. Let's be clear from the start: neither Yves Saint Laurent nor Essential Parfums has him as an ambassador — it is his cinematic world that has freely inspired this selection by Olara perfumery, led by La Nuit de L'Homme, Yves Saint Laurent's study in chiaroscuro.
1“Creed”: legacy in the ring
In 2015, Ryan Coogler relaunched the Rocky saga from the wings: in “Creed”, Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis Creed, Apollo's son, who comes to Philadelphia to be trained by Rocky Balboa — a role that earned Sylvester Stallone a Golden Globe. Dawn wake-ups, a skipping rope in an empty gym, a name too heavy to carry and the will to make it his own: here, discipline is a matter of repetition and sweat. That green, physical energy is exactly what you find in Bois Impérial by Essential Parfums: its crushed Thai basil and timut pepper snap like a left jab, before a woody base that goes the full twelve rounds. The actor returned for “Creed II”, then stepped behind the camera himself for “Creed III” in 2023 — the student turned trainer, as it were.
2“Black Panther”: Killmonger, the kingdom's other face
In 2018, Ryan Coogler's “Black Panther” became a global phenomenon. Michael B. Jordan plays Erik “Killmonger” Stevens, T'Challa's forgotten cousin, back to claim the throne of Wakanda: one of the most memorable antagonists in recent cinema, precisely because he is the hero's inverted reflection — same blood, different story. Yves Saint Laurent bottled that very duality: L'Homme (2006), the luminous woody scent of the day, and La Nuit de L'Homme (2009), its magnetic nocturnal double. Two faces of one signature — the day and the night of the same man, just as T'Challa and Killmonger are two outcomes of the same legacy. The Yves Saint Laurent collection at Olara perfumery holds both camps.
3“Sinners”: twins, blues and a Mississippi night
In 2025, Ryan Coogler delivered one of the year's great critical and popular successes with “Sinners” — and Michael B. Jordan plays two roles: the twins Smoke and Stack, former soldiers who passed through Prohibition-era Chicago, back in the 1932 Mississippi Delta to open a juke joint in a disused sawmill. Over the course of a single night, the film slides from musical drama into the fantastic: incandescent blues, warm lamps, bootleg whiskey — then a threat from outside. That night has a fragrance: La Nuit de L'Homme Le Parfum, the darkest, most enveloping version of the line, made for low lights and music that lasts until morning.
4La Nuit de L'Homme: chiaroscuro in a bottle
If one fragrance had to sum up this world — restraint by day, intensity by night — it would be La Nuit de L'Homme (2009), now one of the most loved men's fragrances of its generation. Its signature is a team effort: Anne Flipo, who also gave us Yves Saint Laurent's Libre, Pierre Wargnye, author of the legendary Drakkar Noir, and Dominique Ropion, the master behind Portrait of a Lady — Olara perfumery has devoted a full portrait to him. Their composition plays in chiaroscuro: a fresh, crystalline cardamom in the opening, a heart of cedar, lavender and bergamot that keeps the suit sharp, then a more sensual base of vetiver and caraway that only reveals itself after dark.
Did you know?
L'Homme and La Nuit de L'Homme were conceived by Yves Saint Laurent as the two faces of the same man: the first for the day, luminous and woody; the second for the night, darker and more sensual. A duality carried right through to the bottles, one clear, the other smoked — a game of doubles that a certain 2025 film about twins would not have disowned.
5EdT, EdP, Le Parfum: three depths of night
The line comes in three genuine intensities, like three hours of the same evening. The 2009 eau de toilette remains the signature version, fresh and magnetic — early evening; the eau de parfum darkens the accord and gives it more body; Le Parfum, finally, pushes into deep oriental territory, for the nights that matter. And so the discipline doesn't stop at the bottle, the line's deodorant stick extends the trail from the training room onwards.
6From the ring to the juke joint: the Olara selection
Around this anchor reference, the selection spans both houses. At Essential Parfums — whose arrival at Olara perfumery we covered — Bois Impérial, the best-seller signed by Quentin Bisch that we explored in depth in our article on Josh O'Connor, is joined here by Mon Vétiver, an upright, charismatic vetiver in the spirit of Sinners' three-piece suits; the alcohol-free Bois Impérial hair and body mist plays the post-training freshness. On the Yves Saint Laurent side, L'Homme and La Nuit de L'Homme form the day/night duo — and for the Saint Laurent spirit for men, our article on Austin Butler explores MYSLF, the house's most contemporary facet. You'll find it all among our men's fragrances.
Your questions, answered
Is Michael B. Jordan the face of a fragrance?
Neither Yves Saint Laurent nor Essential Parfums has him as an ambassador: this selection is an editorial inspiration by Olara perfumery, freely built around his film roles. As a side note, the actor has been the first male ambassador of the American house Coach since 2018, fronting its men's fragrances.
Which films does Michael B. Jordan star in?
He plays Adonis Creed in the “Creed” saga — directing the third instalment himself —, Erik Killmonger in “Black Panther” and the twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler's “Sinners”, one of the big successes of 2025. It was “Fruitvale Station”, in 2013, that sealed his long-running collaboration with the director.
What does Yves Saint Laurent's La Nuit de L'Homme smell like?
A spicy woody scent in chiaroscuro: fresh cardamom on top, a heart of cedar, lavender and bergamot, then a more sensual base of vetiver and caraway. Created in 2009 by Anne Flipo, Pierre Wargnye and Dominique Ropion, it is one of the most appreciated evening fragrances of its generation.
What is the difference between La Nuit de L'Homme Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and Le Parfum?
Three genuine intensities of the same signature: the 2009 eau de toilette is the original, fresh and balanced version; the eau de parfum is darker and denser; Le Parfum is the deepest and most oriental of the three, made for evenings and the cold seasons.
Is Bois Impérial a men's fragrance?
It is a unisex fragrance: its Thai basil, timut pepper and woody base of vetiver and Akigalawood suit her as well as him. Its green, energetic freshness nonetheless makes it a favourite among lovers of tonic masculine woods.
