A deep yet surprisingly luminous oud, conceived as a dialogue between East and West. With Oud Supermassive, French house Les Eaux Primordiales entrusts perfumery's most mythical material to perfumer Julien Rasquinet — and the result, a solar, refined extrait de parfum, has just landed at Olara.
1Les Eaux Primordiales, the house of super-materials
Founded by French creator Arnaud Poulain, Les Eaux Primordiales is one of those niche houses that tell perfumery differently: each collection celebrates a raw material pushed to its “super” state — the Superfluide eaux de parfum, the Supercritique and Superclassique lines, and at the summit, the Supermassive extraits, the house's most concentrated creations. A precise, generous signature that has earned the brand a place of honour among our niche perfumes. The whole house is gathered in our Les Eaux Primordiales collection.
2Oud Supermassive: East meets West
Launched in 2025, Oud Supermassive was born of a collaboration between Arnaud Poulain and Julien Rasquinet — a perfumer trained by the legendary Pierre Bourdon (the nose behind Davidoff's Cool Water), based between Paris and Dubai, and the author of, among others, Nishane's cult Wūlóng Chá. His stance here: a majestic oud stripped of its smokiest, most animalic facets, explored as a dialogue between Eastern traditions and European refinement. Despite its extrait density, the fragrance surprises with its freshness — an oud that opens onto sunlight before sinking into the shadows.
3The pyramid: solar fruits, oud, tobacco and leather
The opening sparkles: sun-drenched mandarin and bergamot, lifted by a green, vibrant cardamom. The heart tips into voluptuousness — a velvety peach, osmanthus with its apricot-and-leather accents, and an exotic passion fruit that keeps everything juicy. Then the base unfolds in all its majesty: oud wrapped in blond tobacco, supple leather and resinous olibanum, leaving a deep trail that lingers for hours on skin and clothes.
Did you know?
Oud is no ordinary wood: it is a defensive resin. When agarwood (Aquilaria) is attacked by a fungus, the tree secretes a dark, fragrant matter to protect itself — and only infected trees produce it. That rarity makes it one of perfumery's most precious raw materials, often nicknamed “black gold”. Most modern ouds are therefore recomposed accords, and every house signs its own.
4Supermassive or Superfluide: which oud is for you?
Two visions of the same material coexist at Les Eaux Primordiales. Oud Supermassive, an extrait de parfum, is the most intense: an evening, cool-season trail built to leave a mark. Oud Superfluide, an eau de parfum, plays the more approachable card of an everyday oud. And if amber or vanilla tempt you more, the Ambre Supermassive and Vanille Supermassive extraits bring the same power to warmer, more enveloping materials. All are worn without gender — find them among our unisex fragrances.
Your questions, answered
What does Oud Supermassive smell like?
A luminous woody oriental: a fresh opening of mandarin, bergamot and cardamom, a fruity heart of peach, osmanthus and passion fruit, then a deep base of oud, tobacco, leather and olibanum. An oud deliberately less smoky and less animalic than tradition dictates — dense, yet solar.
Who created Oud Supermassive?
Perfumer Julien Rasquinet, in collaboration with Arnaud Poulain, founder of Les Eaux Primordiales. Trained by Pierre Bourdon, Rasquinet is notably the author of Nishane's celebrated Wūlóng Chá, and divides his life between Paris and Dubai — a bridge between the two perfume cultures this very creation tells.
What is the difference between an extrait de parfum and an eau de parfum?
The concentration of fragrant oils: an extrait is perfumery's most concentrated form, richer than an eau de parfum, itself more intense than an eau de toilette. In practice, an extrait like Oud Supermassive is applied in small touches and lasts very long on the skin.
Is Oud Supermassive available at Olara?
Yes — the extrait de parfum has just arrived at Olara in the 100 ml size, in limited stock, alongside the whole Les Eaux Primordiales collection.
